How a no-cost solar PPA actually works — explained simply.
If you’ve seen “free solar” ads in Michigan, most of them are 25-year loans dressed up as savings. Salam Solar is structurally different. Here’s the whole thing in plain language — no jargon, no fine print.
The 30-second version
- We install solar panels on your roof — at no cost
- You don’t take a loan. There’s no financing.
- You only pay for the clean power produced — usually below DTE/Consumers rates
- No hard credit pull. No interest. No debt added to your name.
- Faith-conscious structure — happy to walk through with your imam or family advisor
From first call to flipped switch — in 4 steps
Most homeowners go from form submission to flipped switch in 4–8 weeks, depending on utility interconnect time.
Send your basics
Name, address, monthly DTE/Consumers bill. Takes 5 minutes. No commitment, no credit pull.
Roof & usage review
Our team reviews your roof condition, sun exposure, and recent usage. Typically same business day. We tell you straight whether your home qualifies.
Plain-language walk-through
If you qualify, a 15-minute call to walk through the agreement clause by clause. English or Arabic. We’re happy to include your imam, family advisor, or attorney.
Install & flip the switch
Typical install is 1–2 days on-site. Utility interconnect with DTE or Consumers usually takes a few weeks. Then your system is live — and your bill drops.
Solar PPA vs. Solar Loan — in plain language
This is the question that matters most. Most “$0-down solar” offers in Michigan are 25-year loans. Salam Solar isn’t. Side-by-side:
Solar Loan
“Most ‘free solar’ ads in disguise”
- You borrow money from a lender to buy panels
- Interest accrues over the life of the loan
- Hard credit pull required to qualify
- Debt instrument added to your name
- You owe the balance even if the system underperforms
- Selling your home requires loan payoff or transfer
- Interest-based — incompatible with faith-conscious structure for many families
Salam Solar PPA
Power Purchase Agreement — what we do
- We install at no cost to qualified Michigan homes
- You pay only for the clean power produced — by the kWh
- No interest, no financing, no debt
- No hard credit pull required
- If the system underperforms, we own that risk — not you
- Agreement transfers cleanly to a new homeowner if you sell
- Faith-conscious structure — service agreement, not a loan
What we look at when we review your home
Qualification is mainly about the home, not your finances. Here are the four things we check.
Roof condition
Roof needs to be in good enough shape to support panels for the agreement term. If it needs work first, we’ll flag that — no surprise charges later.
Sun exposure
South or west-facing slopes work best. Heavy shade or unusual obstructions may disqualify — we check this with satellite imagery before any visit.
Average bill
Higher monthly bills generally mean bigger savings. We don’t require a specific minimum, but we’ll show you projected savings up front.
Home ownership
You need to own the home (or be the decision-maker on the property). HOA-restricted properties — we can usually find a path; we’ll let you know.
